I spent my feral, formative years in the woods surrounding Winchester, digging holes, climbing trees, and generally being a tearaway. When not outdoors, I would borrow all the natural history books I could carry home from the library and spend my time immersed in David Attenborough. This deep love for the natural world, getting creative, and EATING progressed to me getting a bit more culinary, finding edible plants and fungi on my wanderings and bringing them back to the kitchen to experiment with. This grew into a full-blown unhealthy obsession with cooking, ultimately becoming my principal creative outlet. My wonderfully wild food-savvy (and patient) grandmother fully endorsed this.
I'm grown now, and I have made it my job to pass on my hard-won knowledge and excessive enthusiasm to the people who join me on my forays. It is so beautiful to watch my entry-level foragers take what I've taught home with them and become more connected to the beautiful, wild, green places around us. When we're out on a foraging walk, I make sure the art of hunting down and picking your own wild food is safe and accessible for everybody; but most important to me is to get people excited and demonstrate the innovative and creative uses I've learnt for the unique flavours and textures of the food found in the wild.
